MINI IMPLANTS OR TEMPORARY ANCHORAGE DEVICES (TADs)
Mini-implants offer fixed anchorage to assist the efficiency of your orthodontic treatment.
- Space closure for extraction cases or to avoid the need for dental implants when permanent teeth are congenitally missing
- Tooth uprighting
- Open bite correction alternative to orthognathic surgery
- Intrusion of teeth for Open-Bite Correction (See Before and After Photographs – Non-surgical Open-Bite)
- Class II molar correction with Mini-implants instead of headgear or extraction of permanent teeth
Below are the pictures of a TAD placed between Dr. Standerwick’s teeth!
There is a system that will overcome the bone biology. Wilckodontics requires a surgical procedure to decorticate (make holes or troughs in the thick cortical bone around teeth) which is believed to cause a Regional Acceleratory Phenomenon (RAP). During the RAP, the bone remodelling rate is increased and allows an increase the rate of tooth movement; theoretically the risk of root resorption would be less (67% of the risk of root resorption is the genetic contribution of bone physiology). The surgical procedure requires and increased cost and the orthodontic fees are the same as treatment needs do not change but instead are accelerated.
